Charley Radcliffe

Bio - Alpinist, climber, skier creative at Mammut.

First things first, which mountain are you currently on? haha you're always up a mountain!

Home is Chamonix, France so I can often be found on my favourite route, The Cosmiques Arete for a Cheeky Cozzers solo lap.

Why do you think so many people are drawn to the mountains? Especially Chamonix?

I think we all have our own reasons; be they adventure, freedom, excitement, etc, but I believe the mountains give everyone a chance to understand themselves better, to gain a deeper relationship with ourselves.

You commissioned me to make an engagement ring for your wife. Thank you so much and congratulations! Do these provide a connection to Chamonix and your experience there?

100%. Being able to have capture an ephemeral moment of a glacier (that is fast disappearing!) as a token of when we met, where we fell in love, and where we feel we belong.

How do you think we can all be more engaged and committed to action in preserving our landscape?

We all have our personal responsibilites but the little thing really count - bigger questions on travel are hard to answer but at least take your rubbish with you and leave no trace for those who come after.

Where’s your favourite place to climb and why?

Anywhere in the Mont Blanc Massif - there are 20 lifetimes of climbs, skis, hikes and runs to be enjoyed there!

You must get a lot of people really inspired to spend time in the mountains and your work with mammut is super inspiring. But What do you do to get motivated?!

I simply love being outside and moving in the mountains. I might prefer to ski or climb but even when plans change and you end up on a long approach with no success, it is still a great day out.

What music are you into at the moment? I actually never listen to music in the mountains - I really love to hear what is going on around me.

What does ‘we are our mountains’ mean to you?

Mountains aren't meant to be conquered, they are there to be shared and respected. They are our home and our future, treat them with the relevant respect!

Last one! What are you reading at the moment? Or are you more of a podcast listener?

Reading The Seeker by S G MacLean - I love my historical fiction books!
